About the company

This busy local government authority based in Melbourne's inner northeastern suburbs, requires a Safety & Wellbeing Advisor. You will be joining a dynamic fast paced team who are supportive and collaborative.

This role is to start ASAP and is initially contracted until for 3 months, but it is likely to lead to ongoing work. You will be required onsite and to travel around the municipality for this position due to the nature of the role.

It is a full-time, Monday – Friday role.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Work effectively with all Business Units to ensure the efficient and effective resolution of Safety and Wellbeing matters.
  • Support the organisation in developing and implementing safety and wellbeing programs that promote an effective OHS culture and a proactive approach to the identification, management, and prevention of risks. 
  • Act as a change agent, build awareness, and engagement around safety and wellbeing to establish a sustainable, ingrained positive safety and wellbeing culture.
  • Provide safety leadership across the organisation, particularly in the areas of safety and wellbeing, risk management, OHS training, and operational OHS management. 
  • Facilitate OHS sessions for Business Units to assist them in identifying OHS risks and effective controls for minimising risk to Council employees, and to increase staff’s awareness of OHS and health & wellbeing issues. 
  • Engagement in the proactive management of risks associated with OHS, assets and operations and emergencies to minimise Council’s exposure to risk and injury. 
  • Work with the Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator to identify innovative solutions and continuous improvement to safety & wellbeing and deliver comprehensive programs to ensure Council meets its OHS obligations and objectives.
  • Liaise with people leaders to ensure all relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Guidelines are identified and communicated to staff in easy and accessible language.
  • Adohc tasks as required

You will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety and/or Risk Management and/or acceptable equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role. 
  • Experience in risk identification, assessments and control measures, health and safety systems audits, hazard audits and inspection of workplaces. 
  • Experience in the successful implementation of project goals. 
  • Experience in the implementation of an OHS Management System and experience in applying auditing tools. 
  • Experience in development and implementation of OHS management strategies, systems and procedures.
