  • The OHS Advisor will provide high quality, expert advice based upon legislative compliance and best practice

 

About the company:

A local government authority in the western suburbs of Melbourne is looking for an OHS Advisor to join their people and performance team.

The role will operate within a business partner model with an assigned portfolio shared with another OHS Advisor.  The portfolio includes internal services and community services operations (e.g. libraries, leisure facilities, neighborhood house, maternal and child health etc). 

This role is likely to go on until March 2025 due to the incumbent being on secondment. This is a full-time role, working Monday – Friday.

 

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Engage, coach and support leaders and employees to ensure positive and proactive OHS outcomes.
  • Raise awareness and priority of OHS issues, providing advice, guidance and support on compliance and the implementation of best practice solutions.
  • Provide timely, practical and pragmatic health and safety advice.
  • Interpret and apply health and safety legislation, compliance codes, Australian Standards and guidelines.
  • Facilitate/participate in hazard identification and risk assessment processes and engage with leaders and employees in the field to monitor the application and effectiveness of risk controls.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations, including the development and implementation of controls and the sharing of lessons learned.
  • Collate, analyse, and interpret data, to allow for the identification of trends and the continual improvement of systems, programs and the development of new initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare clear and precise reports that are suitable for their intended audience.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate the delivery of internal and external training programs across the organisation.
  • Assist in the continual development, implementation and internal auditing of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
  • Assist in the development, review and implementation of localised safe systems of work which may include safe work procedures, job hazard analysis and safe work method statements.
  • Conduct internal audits, inspections and observations and participate in external audits as required.

 

You will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in OHS or related discipline with some experience providing specialist OHS advice and support.
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training or equivalent.
  • High risk work licences, internal auditing qualifications or other industry specific training will be highly regarded.
  • Significant experience in an OHS advisory role
  • Demonstrated ability to provide practical, fit for purpose safety solutions, whilst ensuring that legislative and business requirements are not compromised.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and reviewing risk assessments, designing safe systems of work and mentoring stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to develop and implement OHS policy and procedure documentation.
